Why Small-Batch Aluminum CNC Parts Are Our Specialty

A client called me last month. He needed 35 aluminum brackets for a prototype production run. He'd called five shops. Three said "minimum 200 pieces." One quoted him $180 per part. The last one never called back.

He found us. We quoted $28 per part and delivered in 10 business days.

This is what we do at AOOM Technology. We're set up for small-batch CNC aluminum parts, and we do them well.

Why Aluminum Is a Perfect Material for CNC

In my experience, aluminum is the most forgiving CNC material. It cuts fast, holds tight tolerances, and gives a beautiful surface finish.

We machine mostly 6061-T6 and 7075-T6 aluminum. 6061 is the workhorse—good strength, excellent machinability, easy to anodize. 7075 is stronger for structural applications where weight matters but strength can't be compromised.

Aluminum also wins on speed. A part that takes 20 minutes in stainless steel might take 5 minutes in aluminum. That directly lowers your cost.

What We Can Do with Aluminum Parts

Our CNC mills handle aluminum with no problem. Here's what you can expect:

  • Tolerances: +/- 0.01 mm standard, +/- 0.005 mm on critical features
  • Surface finish: down to Ra 0.4 µm with proper tooling
  • Threads: we cut or roll threads in all standard sizes
  • Complex geometries: 3-axis for simple parts, 4-axis for wrapped features, 5-axis for complex contours

Small Batch, Not Small Quality

I tell clients: "Just because you order 20 parts doesn't mean you accept lower quality."

We treat every small-batch aluminum job like a production run. Same inspection process. Same attention to edge breaks and surface finish. Same packaging standards.

Each part is deburred by hand, inspected dimensionally, and individually bagged.

Anodizing Options for Aluminum Parts

Most small-batch aluminum parts need anodizing. It protects against corrosion, adds hardness, and gives a professional appearance.

We offer:

  • Clear anodize: natural aluminum look, minimal cost
  • Black anodize: most popular, hides minor cosmetic variations
  • Colored anodize: red, blue, green, gold, and others
  • Hard anodize (Type III): for wear-resistant surfaces, thicker coating

We coordinate with local anodizing partners who handle small batches without exorbitant minimum charges.

Lead Times for Small Batch Aluminum Parts

Our standard lead time for small-batch aluminum is 7-12 business days. For rush orders, we can deliver in 3-5 days with a modest expedite fee.

Compare that to shops that schedule small batches as "when we have time." We schedule them proactively.

Common Aluminum Parts We Machine

We see these aluminum parts most often:

  • Prototype brackets and mounting plates
  • Enclosure panels and housings
  • Heat sinks for electronics
  • Custom pulleys and rollers
  • Robotics components
  • Fixtures and jigs
  • Marine and automotive parts

Ready for Your Aluminum Project?

If you have aluminum parts that need precision CNC machining, don't settle for shops that treat you like a nuisance. We welcome small batches.

Send us your CAD file. We'll review it, quote it, and get back to you within 24 hours.
